Sensory Activity of the Day: Tutti-Fruity Watercolors

IMG_2020

Let’s explore the wonders of making watercolors, Kool-Aid style! This may just be the world’s easiest recipe for paint.  The aromatic punch of their tutti-fruity scents are a great sensory experience — especially in the morning! Once it dries their masterpiece become a great scratch-n-sniff picture too! Be sure to wear painting clothes, Kool-Aid can stain!

Materials Needed:

  1. A variety of .13- to .23-ounce packets of unsweetened Kool-Aid
  2. Warm water
  3. Brushes, paper, bowls

What’s Next:

  1. For each color combine one packet of drink mix and two teaspoons of water in a small cup, stirring until the mix dissolves.
  2. Use with paintbrushes on watercolor paper. {Tip} Yellow isn’t very vibrant, so try less water first, then add.
  3. Refrigerate any leftover paints in airtight containers for up to three days.

{Tip} Use minimal water to keep the vibrance color.  At first I added to much and it was more like faded color painting, lol.  Definitely cover your work surface and wear messy clothes.

C’s masterpiece …
