Pumpkin Ice Painting

pumpkin ice painting for kids

Boo! Halloween is such a fun holiday to explore easy kid crafts and sensory play.  Who doesn’t love to paint?! Instead of traditional ice painting, let’s add a fun twist – pumpkins! Simply add non-toxic paint to pumpkin ice trays, freeze, and paint! It’s fun, messy, and a great sensory experience for kids.

We purchased our pumpkin ice tray and Halloween spooky creatures from the Dollar Tree.  Simply roll-over your spooky creatures to create the imprints.  C and I chose to layer a few of the paints in the pumpkin tray for extra color fun.  Freeze overnight and your ready for pumpkin ice painting. This was a great opportunity to teach C about freezing and melting! We love the concept learning.  Why does it freeze? What is temperature?

Simply pop them out and allow them to melt for a few minutes.  Initially, they are like crayons.  But when they melt, they melt fast!

I love how the multi-colored ones turned out!

C is not so sure at first! His facial expressions are priceless!

Then the fun messy process begins! He was mashing, spinning, and rubbing them all over! He kept saying, “Boo!” “Zrooom!” And “It’s a pumpkin Mommy!”

The colors are so vibrant too!

Once the pumpkins melted, he added in all the spooky creatures!

He really enjoyed pumpkin ice painting! With all the sensory stimulation, concept learning, and fun science facts, this was a super fun experience.  Happy Halloween!

This look fantastic, and I love using ice cube molds. I actually have this one already, but I seemed to have misplaced it. Hopefully I find it soon so that we can do this!!
