Gobble! Gobble! With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it’s a wonderful time to dig into our festive crafts. Today’s turkey tissue paper by number craft is simple, fun, and educational. All it takes is a few materials you probably have lying around your house and some holiday spirit. Remember color by numbers as a kid? Instead of painting, let’s add a fun twist – tissue paper and glue. From number recognition, to color sequencing, to all-around “glue-and-stick” fun – as my son calls it – it’s sure to be a memorable one. We love paper by number so much, we made a heart tissue paper by number craft too.

You’ll need the following materials:

  • Turkey Template
  • Tissue Paper, various colors
  • Black Marker
  • Glue
  • Scissors (optional)

Gather all our supplies – not much right?! Simply print out your turkey template (materials section), assign your color order – great for the kiddos to do, and spread them out.  Before we could even decide our color order, C immediately starting naming the colors and numbers.  “I want red as the number one Mommy,” replied C! “Red, yellow, orange, green, ow and wait – brown bag!”  I didn’t have brown tissue paper on-hand, so I improvised with a paper bag!

Once he decided on colors and numbers, I numbered the turkey – with his help of course! Next, he ripped the paper into small strips.

He’s really into cutting now, so once he realized he could cut it instead of rip it, he ran into the house to get his kid scissors.

Squeeze the paper into small balls and apply! From the ripping to the scrunching, it really stimulates those sensory muscles too.  Just incase you’re wondering, the paint on his hands is from an earlier project. 😉

Apply glue and stick! It’s that simple.  C pulled each color and number as he glued.  He’s fanatical about numbers and colors, so every-time he finished a color, he’d screech, “2! It’s a yellow 2!”

Just continue around the turkey until you’re all done.  In the end, I added the orange twist strips to define the body and added a goggly-eye! Aside from that, it’s all kid tested and approved!
