Dying Pasta Tutorial

Sensory Colored Pasta Bin by Crayon Box Chronicles

Have you ever tried to dye pasta? It’s super simple and uses just a few basic household items! This recipe is per (1) 1 lb. box of pasta! We did 3 boxes total.

Materials:

  • 2 cups or (1) 1 lbs. box dry Ditalini pasta
  • 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol
  • 20 drops of food coloring
  • Gallon zip-lock bags

Place dry pasta in gallon zip lock bags.  Add your rubbing alcohol, food coloring, and zip tight! Next, shake, shake, shake it up!  Let the bag sit on one side for an hour, then flip it over and do the same. The longer you leave it (I did 4 hours), the deeper the color.

Once you’ve reached your desired coloring, remove the pasta from the bags and spread it our out on wax paper or foil.  Let it dry overnight and your ready!

C was really excited to fill the bin once the pasta dried! I started to and he said, “No Mommy, I can do it!” Now, it’s playtime!  I threw in measuring cups of all different sizes, bowls, his toddler spoon, egg cartons, string, and pipe cleaners. I’d say he loves it!  I must warn you, have a vacuum on hand, lol!
