We love to explore the process of painting with everything but a paintbrush! I was cleaning out my sewing box today and stumbled upon these carpet samples from Home Depot! I tend to collect everything for projects, so I knew they’d come in handy someday! I set up these invitations to paint with no expectations in mind.  C really enjoys exploring the materials and bright colors!

What’s Next:

Squeeze paint on plates, dip, and paint! Sit back and watch your child explore! C began to overlap the colors and create different angles, smearing them too.

We started with three colors, then added orange.  He said, “Mommy, it’s a diamond, it’s a square, blue, yellow … ” and “Smear, smear, smear!” This activity really challenges their color recognition and pattern sequencing skills.

I just adore all his facial expressions! He was singing, “boop, boop, bop …” as he pressed the squares down.

The different textures of the rug samples are a great sensory experience, wet and dry!

Hmm, where should it go?

Painting with rug squares is a lot of fun! I love all the different paint textures and bright colors!

Our colorful art doubles as a sensory board — cool! It’s bold colors and fuzzy textures are great for sensory play! Once dry, hot glue the squares to the picture and mount it on the wall.  Another quick option is foam-core board.  Use it in-place of paper and adhere it to the wall with 3M Command Strips.
